Then at 760℃, cremains will be blackened, however, once the temperature reaches 800℃, residual calcium and phosphorus react and start changing to light grey or white. At 300℃, organic compounds begin to carbonize and turn dark. Most experts agree that the final colour of ashes depends on the chemical components present in the body, and how they react to different temperatures. Light to dark grey is most common, and occasionally we see warm brown tones as well. When it comes to the colour, we typically see anything from pearly white all the way through to charcoal hues. While some ashes yield a coarser finish, usually we expect to see a texture that is similar to sand. Those fragments are then ground to a dusty powder, into what we know as ashes.
